These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour. — Zechariah 8:16
There have been many times in my life when I knew I was being lied to. If we are all honest, we have all experienced this. I recall people that I worked for in the past lying to me. There were coworkers who lied to me. I have even had family members lie to me at various times.
Each time I was told a lie, it hurt. It destroyed the trust that I had in the person. Perhaps they were someone I used to believe in, someone I felt I could depend on. Instead, I was left facing the fact that they lied to me. When someone tells a lie, it hurts.
But what about when someone tells the truth? Maybe you didn’t have faith and trust in someone. Perhaps you didn’t have a close relationship with them where you could depend on what they said. But then, one day, they tell you the truth. Not only does it make you feel good, but it also draws you closer to that person.
Truth has a stronger power than telling lies. Lies destroy, deceive, and hurt. But truth has an amazing power. It’s no secret why this verse encouraged them to tell the truth. Truth has power, but it is also what God expects of each of us. We should all deal with those around us in truth.
Are you being honest with your neighbor? Do we deal with others around us in truth? As Christians, our desire should be to be honest and truthful in all of our dealings. Those around us should be able to depend on what we say every time. It’s a great way to show that we are different than the world.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
