Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. — Proverbs 30:5

There was a movie that I watched years ago that was a battle set back in time. There were no guns, and the battle was being fought with swords, bows, and arrows. As they prepared for battle, each of the soldiers put on armor. They had their helmets and their chest plates. They had their swords on their sides, their bows in their hands. But they also had a shield.

As they marched toward the other group they were battling, I remember watching the final preparations they made. They made sure they had an arrow in place, ready to shoot. They had their swords to draw out easily when needed. But the last words as they approached the line for battle were, “Put up your shield.”

There are many times in our lives that it feels as though we are going into battle. The world around us wants to destroy us. They want nothing more than for Christians to no longer exist. The easy solution is to destroy us, putting us in the minority and silencing our voices.

But instead, we should keep in mind the words of Proverbs 30:5. God is a shield to those who trust in Him. We have no reason to be fearful of the battles of this world because we have God as our shield. Instead of fear, our response should be to put up our shield.

Is the battle raging around you today? Do you feel as though, at any moment, one of the enemy arrows may hit you, causing you to lose the battle? Don’t live in fear. Put up your shield! Put your faith in God and rely on Him. He has never let you down and will not start today!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
