Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. — Isaiah 41:10

I will never forget the day that I received a phone call about one of my closest friends. I was in college, studying to become a paramedic, when a mutual friend called me to ask if I had talked to him lately. It had been several weeks since he and I had spoken. Prior to me starting college, we spent almost every weekend together.

They proceeded to tell me that he had gone out on the lake with a coworker, but something had happened. They hit something in the water that caused the boat to start acting erratically. It threw both of them overboard. The boat apparently got stuck, going in circles, creating a dangerous situation for anyone in the water nearby.

The coworker described how he began swimming after he was thrown overboard and swam to the shore. He said that as he started to scan the area, he couldn’t find Steve. After some time, we learned that Steve unfortunately didn’t make it. When I received that call, I was in disbelief. I didn’t want to believe that one of my closest friends was gone.

It doesn’t take much to turn life upside down. One phone call, one text message, one email, or even just one statement from someone has the ability to change our entire life. But we don’t have to fear the moments when life turns upside down.

These words of Isaiah are a reminder that we are never alone. God is always with us. He will strengthen us, and He will help us. It’s essentially guaranteed that we will have moments when life turns upside down. But our God is a master of all situations. No matter which direction your life has taken, trust in Him. He can handle it.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
