Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever. — Psalm 136:23

Many years ago, when I left my job as a paramedic to pursue new opportunities, I remember saying goodbye to those who I worked with. Many of them had become close friends over the years. But I had other things that lie ahead. A college degree was almost finished, and I was excited for the future that lay ahead.

But several of those I was leaving behind would stay there. It wasn’t that they lacked ambition. They had chosen a different path in their career from me. But I remember some of the words that they said as I left. While many were congratulating me, others made the comment, “Remember me when.” They wanted me to remember them in my future career stops, for potential new opportunities, and to never forget where I came from.

There are many things in life that I will never remember. Our memories are far from perfect. But we all have specific things that we remember. We remember events in our lives like the one I described. Events in our lives shape who we are and how we live the rest of our lives.

One thing any Christian should remember is where we came from. Before we gave our lives to Jesus, we were in a low estate, just as the Psalmist writes. We were unable to overcome our enemies. Our weakness was obvious, but God had mercy on us!

As you reflect on your life, how humbling is the thought that He has remembered you! The God of Heaven, who controls all things, thought enough of you in your low estate to send mercy to you. Certainly, that is something worth praising Him for!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
