I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. — Psalm 16:7

On many occasions in life, I have been faced with a decision. Like anyone else, there are many times I have made those decisions on my own, and I simply moved on. But since I married my wife, I often talk with her about decisions. The decisions that I make have an effect on both of us and our family.

Sometimes, I may ask a close friend for their thoughts on the situation. I have several friends who I may ask their advice depending on the situation. At other times, I still give my parents a call and see what they think. They have often gone through some of the things that I am going through and have some great advice to share.

But I love the words of David in this Psalm. He praises the Lord, who has given him counsel. In the original text, this word is yâ‛ats, meaning to advise, give counsel, or consult. It is also a reference to someone who is known as a Counsellor. That is the same word in Isaiah 9:6, “his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

In all of life’s situations, we have a wonderful, mighty Counsellor! Facing life decisions? Ask God! The circumstances of your family left you with tough decisions? Ask God! Don’t know which direction to go? Ask God!

There is nothing that you will face in your life that God is not willing to help counsel you through. The best part is that He is not guiding you from a perspective of bad decisions or past experiences. He’s guiding you from the perspective of being the one in control of it all! Instead of trying to do it alone, ask God!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
