He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour. — Proverbs 21:21

We often hear the words said in our day about taking a stand. Over the past ten years, it seems that politicians have sought to rally people around taking a stand for their political beliefs. The idea is that if you do not take a stand for those beliefs, they will fade away. There is certainly an aspect of truth to those thoughts, as we have witnessed throughout history.

But we often hear it said about taking a stand in our personal lives. We are told that we should take a stand for our family, friends, and those things that we cherish most. We are told to take a stand in our local communities, churches, and schools. The question is, what are we truly taking a stand for?

I love the words of this verse in Proverbs. I like how one author put it. He suggests that the person who takes a stand for righteousness will certainly find it, but they will also find life and honor. It is that one who takes a stand for God will find purpose in life and be rewarded for it.

We should be standing for the right things in life, the things of God. Not because it will bring us recognition or some tangible award. But because it is what God wants us to do. Standing for the right things helps us fulfill the purpose that God left for us to do.

If you were put to the test today, would you stand for God, no matter what it costs you in this world? Standing for the right things will never be popular. It will never be rewarding in the eyes of this world. But it is what God wants us to do.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
