As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. — 1 Peter 2:2
The amount of food that my son can eat amazes me. I remember when we brought him home from China, they told us he could eat. They weren’t kidding! There are many times that he will sit down to a meal, eat all his food, and then start eating part of my food. He isn’t overweight or unhealthy. He is just a growing boy.
As his body grows, it needs nourishment. It needs the vitamins and minerals that are found in various foods to help his bones grow bigger and his muscles stronger. Every child who has ever lived requires nourishment in order to grow to their full potential. Withhold certain things from them, and they may never reach their full growth potential.
But the same can be said for us spiritually. We can set out with the best of intentions, but without proper nourishment, our spiritual bodies will suffer. We need spiritual nourishment to grow and reach our full potential. But why is it that we often overlook this nourishment out of convenience?
God has given us His word to read and help us grow. But there are so many distractions that can keep us from reading it. We can easily be overwhelmed in the quiet moments of the day with thoughts of everything we must do. Even if we read it, the distractions can keep us from focusing on it to understand it.
Is there anything in your life that is hindering your spiritual nourishment? God wants you to grow and reach your full potential, but you will never reach that potential if you are not nourished properly. Ask God to help you set aside the distractions of life and dedicate time to proper nourishment.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
