Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly. — Jonah 2:1

Many years ago, a new television show took the nation by storm. Participants would go on the show and would be asked a series of questions. As the show progressed, the questions became more difficult. If they answered all the questions correctly, they would win a million dollars in the end. I recall watching the show many times over the years it was on.

If the participant got to a question that was so difficult that they did not know the answer, they had a resource called a lifeline. It was a way to eliminate some wrong answers, ask for help from the audience, or call someone they trusted to help. Amid the music, lights, and pressure, they had to determine when they needed to use their lifelines.

That’s sort of how I see things with Jonah here. Jonah had disobeyed God, refusing to listen and go to Nineveh. He was tossed overboard amid a storm on the sea and was swallowed by a great fish. So there was Jonah, in the belly of the fish, completely out of options. He needed a lifeline!

There are many times in life we may find ourselves in need of a lifeline. Maybe we find ourselves in a situation like Jonah, where our own disobedience has left us without any other options. Perhaps it is one of life’s fiercest trials, one that only God can help us through. No matter what it is, we are never alone!

Do you need a lifeline today? If not today, there will probably be a day in the future that you will. When those times come, turn to God. The Bible is filled with example after example of those who called on Him in times of need. He was always faithful and will be faithful to you too!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
