And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. — John 3:19

My wife absolutely loves bright lights in our home. If we are at home, she wants to have all the brightest lights on so she can see anything and everything. But as it goes into the evening, I prefer to have less light to relax.

I often joke with her about her love of light. She will turn a light on quicker than you ever imagined possible. She doesn’t want to step on anything, miss anything, or any other potential outcome you can imagine. Maybe I’m just a risk taker and prefer to take my chances.

Light is something that we all become accustomed to. We experience the light of day and the darkness of night. We understand that there are things that happen during the night we cannot see by day. This is why we often talk about how evil lurks and lives in the dark.

The world, at its core, loves darkness. It loves evil and all that it brings about. Let someone turn on a light, shining that light onto the evil that is taking place, and immediately, that light is hated. That was certainly the case with Jesus. The world hated Him because He shed light on the evil.

But what about us? Do we love the evils of darkness more than the light? Are we more interested in the pleasures of this world than living right in the eyes of God? Our lives should reflect the light that lives within us. But the world cannot see that light if we are in love with wickedness. Today, commit to living for God and love living in the light rather than the darkness of this world.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
