The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked. — Proverbs 10:3

Throughout my life, I have heard and read stories about people striving for things in this world. I recall reading the story of a man obsessed with earning great wealth. He spent his whole life accumulating wealth, but in the end, he felt empty because he never achieved everything he believed he should with that wealth. In his life, he was never satisfied.

There are countless other examples, and no doubt you had many come to your mind already. Time and again, people attempt to satisfy their souls with the things of this world, but it doesn’t work! People spend their lives working to try to satisfy their souls, but they never find true satisfaction.

Solomon shares a great viewpoint on this that we could all learn from. He shares that God will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish. In other words, for those searching for satisfaction, it can be found in God. God alone can satisfy the desires of your soul.

But he goes on to give a warning. When he mentions the substance of the wicked, the idea is that they never get the enjoyment they thirst for. They waste their time searching for satisfaction in the things of this world, but nothing can satisfy them. Only God can bring about true satisfaction in our lives.

Are you looking for true satisfaction in life? Finding true satisfaction in life is not so difficult if you know where to look. The things of this world are temporary and will never satisfy your soul. God is the source of true satisfaction. If you live for Him, seeking after the things of God, your soul will never famish.
