And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. — Ephesians 4:24
I once read the story of a man who had spent much time in prison. He had committed several crimes and was arrested after some time. He went through the legal process and, soon, was sentenced to several years behind bars. He was young, isolated from family and friends, and felt alone. He began searching for something to help combat the loneliness, where he found a Bible.
He began to read it as he sat in his cell. He didn’t understand all the words on the pages. But, as he read, he discovered his need for a Savior and asked Jesus Christ into his heart. His feelings of loneliness subsided. He knew he was no longer alone. But then others around him noticed something. He was not the same person that he was before.
He no longer argued with the guards or was involved in the fights that would occasionally break out. He told others the good things that happened to him after giving his life to Jesus. The things he once loved, he no longer loved. He was a changed man, and everyone around him could see it.
A significant change takes place in our lives when we accept Jesus as Savior. All the sins that we once craved should be put away. That is not to say we will never sin again. But our desire should be to live for God and put those things aside.
We may have to put aside some friends that we once had. There are places we used to go to where we may no longer be able to go. We should put aside the old things and display the new creation that God has made in us. It should be a change that everyone can see.
Your life cannot be changed if you have never accepted Jesus. That is the important first step. After that, our lives will never be the same. Our desires should be on things of God, not the things of this world. Can others around you see the new creation that you have become?
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
