As a parent, you often catch yourself watching and doing all that you can to protect your children. It’s not uncommon that I find myself walking through a store and watching to make sure that my son will not get lost. We have visited some large places, large cities, and even large airports. Each time, I find myself doing all that I can to watch over him and protect him.
Not long ago, we were walking through a parking lot. I noticed that a car ahead was running. The person didn’t see my son and me walking behind them as they backed up. Quickly, I pulled him out of the way. I pushed him behind me and made sure that he was going to be safe.
There will come a day when he is grown, and I am no longer there to protect him. He will have to watch for himself and protect himself. But until that day, I will continue to surround, watch over, and do all I can to protect him.
That is exactly how our God is! The psalmist reminds us that God surrounds His people as the mountains surround Jerusalem. The mountains were a natural defense. They provided shelter, comfort, and protection for the city. Nothing came to the city without first having to cross the mountains. What an amazing description of our God!
We are surrounded by God. He guards the things that may approach our lives. He gives us protection and can defend us from whatever may try to come against us. When we are surrounded by God, we are safe and secure.
No matter what you may be facing in life, if you are a child of God, remember you are surrounded by God. He can provide you with protection, comfort, and help in any situation. Instead of struggling, trust Him.
