Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them. — Ezra 5:2

Not long after we were married, I began studying and working toward finishing my Master’s degree. It was a goal that I had set for myself for quite some time. I wanted to further my career, and I knew that having the degree would help me reach my goals.

It wasn’t easy, and it took quite some time for me to achieve my goal. I remember countless nights that I spent studying, reading books, notes, and reviewing lectures. My wife would consistently ask me how things were going. She knew each day when I was stressed and perhaps struggling.

We would sit down to eat or talk before bed; she would ask what I was studying, how it was going, and then she would say words that meant so much. She would say, “I know you are working hard, and I’m proud of you.” She wasn’t able to take those tests for me. She couldn’t write the papers on my behalf. But she did her part by simply being there and encouraging me.

Each one of us has a purpose in life to fulfill. As we read in our verse, some of them began to build the house of God in Jerusalem. But there were the others that were mentioned here when it says, “helping them.” It doesn’t say they built anything, but they helped in the way they could.

God wants us to help others through this life. Helping them doesn’t always involve a physical action on our part. Sometimes, we simply need to be there. Hearing them and letting them know we care.

Is there anyone in your life that needs help? How are you helping them? Great things can be accomplished when we do our part to help others as God has designed.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
