My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. — Psalm 62:5

As I sat on the couch, my son came up beside me and sat down next to me. I could tell that he was looking straight at me. He wanted my attention but didn’t want to interrupt what I was doing. As I finished what I was doing, I looked over at him. I expected him to start out sharing what it was that he wanted.

Instead of sharing what he wanted, he began to tell me about how he had waited so long for me to look at him. He told me how he was patient, waiting, and that he needed me for something. After a few minutes, he finally got to the point. He wanted me to help him do something in his room.

While my son is often extremely energetic, this time really surprised me. He waited earnestly. He had an expectation of me as his father, and he knew that I would take care of the situation if he waited. Instead of being impatient or making a mess of things, he waited.

How many times have we made a mess of things rather than waiting on God? We often have our expectations of what we want him to do and how we want him to intervene. We also know that we need this help to come from God. But instead of waiting on God, we often take it upon ourselves to do something.

Do you have something that you are expecting God to do in your life right now? If so, are you waiting, or are you making a mess? It can be difficult to wait patiently. When we believe that God can do anything, we often want Him to do it right now.

God doesn’t always do things right now. That shouldn’t change our expectations. Instead of acting alone, we must remember that our help comes from Him. Sometimes, we have to wait.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
