Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. — Philippians 4:8

Ask anyone who knows me well, and they will tell you that I can sometimes struggle paying attention. I can often be distracted by things going on around me. But I also find myself thinking a lot. Many times, I get something on my mind and just start thinking on and on about it.

Life certainly gives us a lot of things to think about. Many of us think about our jobs. Perhaps we think about family, friends, or those around us. We may think about cars, food, or a million other things in this life. It’s not necessarily bad to think about some things, but what does our mind dwell on the most?

There’s certainly a great description here in this verse and suggestion of things for our mind to dwell on. Things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of a good report, virtuous, and praise. We could talk for hours about these things and what each one could include.

But if we think about those descriptions, one of the first things that should come to our mind is God. We could easily consume our day thinking about God, His word, His goodness, and His grace. We can think of His forgiveness and our future home in Heaven.

Our minds are often consumed with worry, fear, and regret. They may be consumed with doubt, troubles, and concerns. But instead of being consumed with those things, try to be consumed with thoughts of God. What consumes your thoughts each day? Perhaps it is time to try something different if it is anything other than God. It will certainly make a change in your life.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
