For the body is not one member, but many.1 Corinthians 12:14

Not long ago, I read a story about a young lady who was ashamed of who she was. She was born without a hand and felt that she needed to hide her disability. She went out of her way to keep others from seeing that she was different. The story was about how she came to accept that she was different and started using her disability for good.

The story was inspiring in how she was driving change in life. I can certainly understand the perspective of the young lady. I have often heard stories like hers, where those with unique challenges in life may try to hide them. But God didn’t make a mistake with anyone in this life. In fact, He designed us all to be unique and gave us a purpose.

In 1 Corinthians, there is a lot discussed about how we are all different. I love the verse here that says the body is not one member, but many. Our physical body is made up of a wide variety of parts, each one unique. The same goes for each of us in the family of God.

We do not all look the same. There are different personalities, different ages, different backgrounds, and different perspectives. Maybe you are missing a hand, are deaf, or are blind. You may be overweight, underweight, short, or tall. It really doesn’t matter, because each of us has a purpose for God.

Our lives are a blessing from God, no matter what challenges we may face. The uniqueness of God’s design is all part of His plan. Instead of hiding the uniqueness, our desire should be to use it for God. Are you using your uniqueness for God’s purpose and plan? You may never know the impact you will have until you surrender your uniqueness to God.
