Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. — Psalm 20:7
On a few occasions, I have been blessed to be able to visit a military base. I remember many years ago, when I was in school, we traveled on a field trip to Norfolk, Virginia, and visited the naval station. We saw many ships in the harbor. Some were active, and some were in for service. There were ships there with planes on the deck. We saw a submarine that was up at the dock, giving our military members a much-needed break.
On another occasion, I was able to visit Beale Air Force Base in California. I recall seeing the different planes and vehicles around that base as well. We often talk about the strength of the US Military, but it is a humbling experience to see that force in person and in action as they go about their day.
As impressive as those plans and ships were, one thing really stood out to me. I remember seeing those planes and ships needing repair. Some may have been damaged in action, others from wear and tear. In other words, they weren’t truly indestructible.
I couldn’t help but think of the words of David here in this Psalm. There are many who will trust in the “chariots and horses” of our day. I am not saying that I don’t have faith in the US Military. But I am saying that our faith should be placed in God, the ultimate authority over everything in this world!
You can put your faith in many things in this world. But all of those things are temporary and not meant to last forever. They have the potential to fail you at any moment. God will never fail you! Nothing else in this world can live up to that!
Are you simply trusting in the things of this world? Perhaps you are trusting in your own ability. Maybe you are trusting in your money, your possessions, or perhaps a close friend or family member. All of those things will fail you at some point. But God never will!
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
