But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. — Psalm 22:19
There is a game that my son often likes to play when we go into a store. After we get into the door and get away from the large groups of people, he likes to get behind me and try to hide. His version of hiding is simply to stay out of the way and move when I turn my head so that I can’t see him. As I watch him, I notice that he starts to get nervous if he starts getting too far away.
At times, he will take off running in an attempt to get closer. He felt unsure of himself, and he wanted the comfort of being much closer. There are many times in these instances that he has run into me or my wife as we were walking.
But there is another side to this. We are always watching him, keeping up with how far away he is. While he may feel he is far away, we never let him get far away. If we sense he is getting far away, we stop and let him catch up.
There are times in life when we may feel like God is so far away from us. We may feel that we are too far away, unable to catch up to Him. But the truth is, God is never far away. He is always paying attention, watching, and knows exactly where we are.
If we start feeling far from God, we should do everything we can to get closer to Him. He won’t push us away. In fact, there’s a good chance that God will let you “run into Him,” so to speak, experiencing Him in a special way.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
