What is your why?

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. — Colossians 3:17

One of the most interesting things about being a father is being asked questions. Sure, there are many times that those questions can come at the most inconvenient times. But it is a child’s nature to want to understand the reasoning behind something. In fact, as we mature, we don’t stray too far from that same desire.

I have witnessed this all throughout my career. In some situations, it was me wanting to understand the why behind something. In other situations, I witnessed coworkers around me try to understand the concepts of what was taking place. That desire comes as we all understand that there is typically a reason and purpose behind things that are done.

As Paul writes in Colossians, he shares with the people that in everything they do, they should do it in the name of the Lord Jesus and in giving thanks for what He has done. There was purpose in everything that they did. Paul was simply trying to help them understand the why.

What is your why? Why do we serve God and live for Him? The world puts so many things in front of us and God gave us the choice. Instead of following the path of the world, why do we choose the path of God?

For Paul, the answer was found in giving thanks. He realized all that God had done for him. Our reason why shouldn’t be much different. We are forgiven of our sins, a debt paid we could never afford. That itself is enough! But God continues to bless us with mercy and grace each day.

It really isn’t hard to find a reason to serve God. The challenging part often comes back to our willingness to serve Him. As you go about your day, think about your why. Reflect on the things that God has done for you. While the day may be difficult, it’s easier to face it with a purpose in our hearts.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
