But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?  — John 16:5

Wide open only begins to describe my son on many days. From the time he wakes up until the time he goes to bed, he is a ball of energy. He is inquisitive about everything as he learns and experiences many things for the first time.

Like most kids, there are some times that energy can be a bit overwhelming. It can be challenging for a kid to calm down, pay attention, and channel their energy in the right direction. There are many times that I have had to look at him and say, “Just stop it.” Once he finally stops whatever he is doing, I’m able to get his attention and focus him in the right direction.

Jesus had told the disciples that He was going to leave them. They had left all they had known to follow Him, but now He was going to go away. So instead of asking questions and trying to learn more, they decided to go into grief. They were so upset that they failed to see what Jesus wanted them to see.

We are often the same way. We become so distracted by things in our lives that we miss things. We are so focused on our own grief, heartache, troubles, and cares that we often overlook what God is really doing in our lives. I wonder how many times God has wanted to tell us “Just stop it!”

It can be so easy to turn our attention and focus on ourselves and our problems. Instead, our eyes should be on the Master! God knows what we need in our lives, long before we do. Rather than looking at the problems and being caught up in the distraction, our attention should be on God in anticipation of what He is going to do.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
