In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? — Psalms 11:1

There is just something special about western North Carolina to me. I remember growing up and looking off into the distance to see things like Table Rock. Not long after my wife and I were married, we bought a house in the foothills. As I would drive to our home, I could look off into the distance and see Grandfather Mountain. I always love driving and looking off in the distance to see a variety of mountains, including Mount Mitchell.

In the past, I traveled all across the country for work. I have visited the Cascades in the pacific northwest. Mount Hood was an impressive site to see as I drove through Oregon. I have seen the Rocky Mountains and their impressive heights as well.

As impressive as they are, there’s just something about the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. It’s because they are home. They are more familiar than any other place. When I am around the mountains of North Carolina, I’m around the people I know, the areas I know. There’s a sense of safety and security.

That’s the idea behind what David writes here in this Psalm. David likens it to a bird and a mountain. It is the sense of security that nothing can get to you. You know the surroundings there better than anywhere else. You can find rest, peace, and comfort. That is the feeling that David describes because he has put his trust in God.

No matter where life may take us, the ultimate place of peace, safety, and security can only be found in God. It’s a place where we should be able to sit back and know that things will be ok. The storm may rage around us, but that’s ok. If our trust is in God, we can look around and know that we are safe. Are you trusting in Him today?

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
