Recently, I read an interesting article that was describing generational differences that we see in our day. The article set out by describing the baby boomer generation and how that generation was dedicated and committed to work. It continued by progressing through another generation that was interested in a balance between work and life. They wanted to work, but they did not want that work to infringe upon their personal life.
The article continued and described the latest generation of workers. It said that these workers are no longer interested in committing to a particular place of work, style of work, or even career. The new generation was described as one that seeks experiences above all else. I find that very interesting.
We all live our lives based on experiences whether we want to admit it or not. Experiences define us, shape us, and drive us forward in our future decisions and actions. Unfortunately, we are living in a society that is chasing experiences and leaving the experience of God out.
At the very center of every experience in our lives should be God. As Christians, we know and believe that God loved us. So why would He want to be left out of our lives? Instead, God wants to be the center of our lives. He wants to be the focus.
There’s nothing wrong with experiencing things in life. But each experience should be led with the questions. Questions like, “Is this what God wants me to do” or “Is this bringing glory and honor to God?” Our heart’s desire should be to experience life with God and through a focus on God.
