For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. — Ecclesiastes 9:5

Over the past few days, the news around the world has been focused on a missing submarine in the North Atlantic Ocean. Five people launched out to visit the shipwreck of the Titanic and as their voyage progressed, something happened. As I sit here and write, the rescuers are searching and hopeful to find the crew still alive. But we don’t know what the future may be.

I am certain that the people who set off on the voyage were confident in their return. No doubt they had future plans made for once they returned. They would tell friends and family about their adventure, perhaps share photos, and have a memory to tell others for a lifetime.

While we pray for their safe rescue, the situation is a reminder to us that we all have a day appointed when we will die. As the verse says, the living is aware that one day we will face death. But so often we consider that day is far away. The reality is that day could be today for any of us.

On any given day, we may never open our eyes. Or we may go about our day, not knowing that before that day ends we will draw our final breath. But we don’t have to live our lives in fear of death if we have accepted Jesus and put our faith in God.

As Christians, we shouldn’t be concerned or worried about death and the future. Because we know our future is certain. We know that if we never wake up tomorrow or never see the sunset on this day, we will live forever with God. It’s something we should be thankful for today and praise God for! But unfortunately, there are many that still worry about death and the future.

Do you ever worry about dying? Is the prospect of an uncertain future something that gives you concern? It doesn’t have to be that way. If you are still alive, you still have the opportunity to give your life to Jesus and know what your future holds! Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
