Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. — Psalm 54:2

It is often funny how we can be distracted by things in life. We have so many things going on around us that we often overlook things that are right beside us. That was certainly the case not long ago with my wife. I was working away on something on my laptop and apparently, she was telling me a big story that she wanted me to hear. That’s when I heard those dreadful words: are you listening?!

The truth is that I wasn’t. I had not heard anything she said up to that point. It was not that I didn’t care, but I was distracted by what I was working on. I had to immediately apologize and asked her to repeat the story again.

We each face moments in our lives where we feel like no one is listening to us. Perhaps it is our spouse, children, other family members, or friends. It often seems like we face those moments when we need help in life. Maybe we are facing a difficulty or circumstance, and we just want someone to listen.

David was in one of those situations here in Psalm 54. He was facing circumstances and he needed God to intervene. Then he said the words, “Hear my prayer.” Did David really think that God was not listening? I think there’s a strong possibility because there have been times in my life when I felt like that too.

But God is listening even when no one else around us is listening. When we cannot find anyone else who wants to hear the cares and concerns of our lives, God wants to hear them! He may not always respond at that moment where we can see it, but you can trust that He is behind the scenes working things according to His plan.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
