He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all. — Romans 8:32

If you look up the definition of foolish, it means showing a lack of good sense. It goes on to say that it is ridiculous, or absurd. If you are like me, you have probably heard a lot of foolish things in your life. You can simply look around and see foolish things that make no sense all around us. Things that are ridiculous, absurd, or even preposterous.

While there are countless examples all around us, none compare to one of the most foolish things I ever heard. It made absolutely no good sense. It seemed completely unreasonable and absurd that someone would consider such a thing. Especially since it involved their only son.

As a father of just one son, I can tell you that there is nothing I would not do for him. I love him and would give up my life so that he could have his any day. So how could it be that a father, who loves his son dearly, would give up his son in order to save someone else? To give up his son in order to save people who despise him, ridicule him, and mock him daily.

But that’s exactly what God did. God the Father, the same one who declared in Matthew 3:17 how proud He was of Jesus, purposefully sent His son to die to save the world. It’s the most foolish thing I have ever heard in my life, but it was the only way for you and me to be saved.

As sinful as we all are, why would He ever do such a thing? Not just for me or you, but for all. It’s so foolish to think that a father would give up his son like this, but that’s what God did. Today, I am thankful that He gave His only Son for me. How about you? Or maybe you don’t know Jesus as Savior. There’s no better day than today!

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
