And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. — Luke 24:15

There are quite a few times in my life where I have not been exactly clear on what was happening. I remember the many times I have started a new job. Each one has a specific way to doing things. You may clock in a certain way, file paperwork a certain way, or perhaps even conduct events a specific way.

There are many other experiences in my life where I have had to navigate through things I didn’t quite understand. I didn’t know all about marriage when I got married, I had to learn and trust God after we were married. I certainly didn’t understand parenting when we adopted our son, but God helped me get a better understanding as things went along.

Life is full of events and circumstances which we don’t always understand. I often think about these two that were walking on the road to Emmaus. They started walking toward Emmaus not fully understanding all that had happened. They knew Jesus had died and we find in this verse they were reasoning together. They were trying to make sense of it.

I certainly haven’t traveled the road to Emmaus myself, but I have experienced what is said in the next few words. Many times when I’ve found myself in uncomfortable and unknown circumstances, Jesus has drawn near. I have felt the comfort of God and the presence of God in those trying times to help me make it through.

Maybe you face circumstances surrounding your job, family, or marriage you just don’t understand. Maybe it’s personal health, finances, or other things that just don’t make sense. No matter what it is, that’s when God will draw near and help you through. You may not always see Him, but He is there and will go through it with you until the end!
