And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God. — Luke 2:27-28

On many occasions, I have heard Christians share about experiencing God in a unique way. Perhaps they were going through things like sickness or having experienced a death in their family. I remember one such experience in my time as a paramedic. I remember going on an emergency call where a young child had died in the middle of the night.

There were many people there that night, with tears and heartache all throughout the room. I certainly didn’t have the answers for the parents of that child. As we continued to do all that we could, I made sure that the family was taken care of by those who were there to help assist us.

After some time, I had the opportunity to see that family once again. As we spoke, I asked how they were doing. I’ll never forget their words. The mother quickly answered, and she said that while her heart was absolutely broken, she had experienced God in a special way. She said that God drew her close and blessed her beyond her imagination. She said it was as if God was only focused on her.

I can’t help but imagine that this was the experience of Simeon here in the temple. He had lived a devout life, a life of great reputation, waiting for an experience with God. He had been promised a unique blessing just for him. Then, on this day, he was able to take Jesus, the Savior of the world, into his arms and praise God!

Living for God doesn’t mean that every day will be easy. I have no doubt there were days that Simeon wondered. I have no doubts that this mom still has days where she struggles. But God is faithful and true. He cares and loves His own! In our greatest times of need, that is when He often sends us a unique blessing.

So no matter what you may be facing, don’t give up. Don’t give up on God. Keep living for Him, no matter how trying times may be. God has a unique blessing that’s only for you.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
