On many occasions, I have set out to drive to a place that I had never been to before. Or perhaps, I was even going somewhere that I had been before, but I did not know the best way to get there. On those occasions, I was extremely thankful to have a GPS in my vehicle. I have become accustomed to having one.
But a few weeks ago, I wanted to avoid some traffic. I wasn’t quite sure if there was a better way around it, so I set my GPS for where we were going. I put in the right address, and I set out on my journey. I was following every direction and making every turn. Until I decided that I didn’t like the way the GPS was taking me. I thought I knew better.
So I made an extra turn, and suddenly, I was in an area that I had never been to. It was not the nicest part of town. It seemed every turn I made, I got into a worse situation. Finally, I simply turned around and started following the GPS once again.
We often do the same thing in our spiritual lives. We start out following God and trusting His plan, but then we think we know better. We take a shortcut, turning a different way. When we do this, we can quickly find ourselves in a mess!
God has a plan and a purpose for the path we take in life. He knows every turn and everything that we will face. Instead of second-guessing God’s way, we should trust Him. We should follow His direction in every step that we take. It’s much easier to follow God the first time than to have to turn around and start over again.
