And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. — Genesis 8:20
I have never been a person to like to wait to get to the final result. For example, if I know what should happen, I just want to get right to the result. If I know what the destination is, I want to get there as fast as I can.
There are many others that appreciate things along the way. Maybe they enjoy the long drive, the long hike, or the long process to achieve a goal. Me, I would rather just get right to the end and enjoy the end result. But many times, that’s not how life works.
We see a great example of that here with Noah. Quite some time had passed here since Noah was given the direction to build an ark. He took the time to gather the supplies, build the ark, load the animals, and finally spend days on end shut in the ark. When all of that was finished, the first thing he did was build an altar. He desired a time of closeness with God.
But before the altar, Noah had to go through a lot. He went through ridicule, a flood, and no doubt many things even the Bible doesn’t mention. The point is, sometimes you have to go through a lot of things before you get to the place of closeness with God that you desire.
Maybe you are at a point in your life where you desire that closeness, but you feel like it will never arrive. Remember the story of Noah. Think about all he went through before he ever reached the altar. Don’t lose faith, your altar is coming. But before the alter, you have to go through the trial.
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
