He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still…Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! — Psalm 107:29 & 31

Over the past few days, we have talked about those pesky summer thunderstorms. We described the developing stage when you could see the storm approaching on the horizon. Then we took a look at the mature stage when you are in the middle of the storm, and it is raging around you. But there’s one final stage of every thunderstorm.

In this dissipating phase, the rain starts to weaken, the winds start to calm, and the storm begins to cease. As the experts share, what is happening is that the things that provided the strength to the storm are becoming overpowered. The storm cannot survive amid the things that are working against it. In other words, there is a greater power at work.

If you have ever experienced a storm in your life, you can think back on those very moments. You remember when the storm was raging against you, then all of a sudden, things changed. You begin to see God’s hand working and moving. He begins to change things in the middle of your storm.

When you look back at the storm, it becomes much easier to see the hand of God. You can see how His hand was at work guiding you and protecting you. Things may not be the same as before the storm. But the storm reminds you of who God is and what He has done for you.

The storms of life bring a different perspective. You are able to appreciate the calm. You are able to see God and His handiwork in a way that you never have before. As you look back on the storm and see the work of God, thank Him and praise Him. He is worthy!

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
