On several occasions, I have been privileged to meet various leaders. These have been governmental leaders and business leaders, and on one such occasion, I was able to spend some quality time with one of these leaders. This leader was running for office, but amid a recent event, they decided to postpone their campaign, sending all the donations and workers to help with the event that had taken place.
As we talked, I asked the man why he would do this. He was in a close race, and he needed the money for ads, appearances, and more. He told me that he realized that it was probably a horrible decision for his campaign. But then he proceeded to describe to me how God had placed it on his heart to help.
He told me that it was not about the political office but this was about helping people. He described how he had the desire to help people, and if this was how God wanted him to help others, that’s what he wanted to do. He said, “I have nothing to gain personally if I win the election. This is about people.”
I was so amazed at his candor, but what an amazing example of being like Jesus! Our Savior had nothing to gain from giving His life for our sins. He didn’t have anything that He personally needed to accomplish, but He needed to give His life so that you and I might find forgiveness.
As we live our lives, our desire should be to live an example of Jesus Christ in front of others. Sometimes, that may mean we sacrifice our personal desires and aspirations. Many will say that it is disappointing to consider. The truth is, every sacrifice is worth pointing others to the Savior.
