Remember where your strength comes from

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. — Psalm 23:3

One of the most difficult things I used to do was work 24-hour shifts as a paramedic. Sure, many of the calls were challenging and difficult to face. Some of the most challenging situations were simply being awake for the entire 24 hours. Sometimes, the calls never seemed to stop, and we were on the go for the entire 24-hour shift.

Our shifts would typically start at 8 a.m., and by 3 or 4 in the morning, I was absolutely exhausted. I remember on many occasions, we would stop at a specific gas station on the way back from the hospital and purchase energy drinks and coffee just to make it through the night. We needed something to give us the energy to make it through the rest of the night.

There are many times in life we find ourselves in those situations. Not necessarily in the back of an ambulance in the early morning hours, but facing the challenges of life that never seem to end. It seems you have exhausted all of your energy and you just don’t have the strength to make it another day.

That seems to be the thought that David shares here in this statement of how the Lord, our Shepherd, restored his soul. David is saying that when he feels he cannot go on anymore, the Shepherd gives him the strength to keep going. The Shepherd rejuvenates his life to help him face another day.

In those moments when you feel like you simply cannot go on and that you want to give up, remember where your strength comes from. You aren’t going to find the strength to face the challenges of life in this world. This strength comes from God, our Lord, and our amazing Shepherd.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
