He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. — Luke 6:48

Once, I had the opportunity to walk around a significantly old building with an engineer. My company was looking at purchasing this building and the associated property. We hired a company to help us evaluate the building’s value and condition. This company suggested the engineer based on their findings.

The building appeared to be in great shape from a distance. It had been there for nearly 100 years. It was iconic in the area, and if you told someone to look for this building, they knew exactly where it was. While it may have looked great to many, there were some problems.

As we walked around the building, the engineer pointed out cracks in the building. There were significant cracks in the brick that had been filled in the past. He showed me smaller cracks that had developed since the repair. Inside, there were many areas of repair. What looked to be minor to some had the evidence of being a major issue.

What was the problem? The building’s foundation was not solid. It had been built on a hill without the proper support. As he described it, the building would eventually collapse and was a significant risk. Without the proper foundation, the building would eventually crumble.

The same goes for our lives. It can be so easy to build our lives on a foundation of weak faith. It may be tempting not to put the time and effort into building a strong relationship with God. Without a strong foundation, it places your life at risk for many things.

Without a strong foundation, cracks will develop. You will find it harder and harder to stand for what is right. You will find it easy to give in and give up. You have to work hard on a strong relationship with God, our firm foundation, to prevent the cracks in life. Are you willing to put in the work?

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
