He must increase, but I must decrease.— John 3:30

On many occasions I have written about concerns with society. I’ve shared my thoughts related to the desires of everyone to be popular on social media. It seems that everyone wants to be TikTok famous. The desire is to get the attention turned on them for the things they do or the places they go. There is such a significant desire among our world to be recognized.

Many times, I have used this exact situation as an example to share how we should live our lives in a way so that others can see God in us. It is true that our lives are a witness to others every day. But I read this verse recently and there was a new challenge that came into my life through the verse.

We should live our lives so that others can see God alone through our lives. It should never be a competition between you and God as to who receives the recognition through your life. As Paul said so well, God forbid that we attempt to glory in ourselves!

John shared in just 7 words an immense challenge for our lives. We should attempt to diminish any recognition of ourselves, so that all the focus is on God. God created us and gave us the ability to point others to Him. He never meant for us to be the subject of attention.

Your name may never be in the lights of this world. You may never play a sold out show, speak in front of a massive audience, or be known by the most powerful people of the world. But your life has an immense purpose and meaning. God created you to bring the attention of those around you to Him! We have to get ourselves out of the way, and put God in center focus.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
