But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. — Galatians 6:14

A few days ago, I was driving down the road in the area where we live. The area is known for having a rather large homeless population and you often see them standing around different intersections in town holding signs. Most of these signs are simple and say simple words describing the help the person may need.

On this particular day, one of the signs caught my attention more than the others. The man stood on the corner and was holding the sign. The sign did say, “anything helps” but it was the other words that struck me. The sign said, “this sign is all that I have.”

I remember thinking about those words as I continued throughout my day. This verse of scripture came across my mind in Galatians where Paul said that all his glory should be in the cross of Jesus. Paul realized that there was nothing he could do to atone for his sin and give eternal life. The only hope he had was in the cross!

All around us, people are focused on their earthly possessions. They believe that having the most and the best will help them get by. But they seem to forget that everything in this world is temporary. It can and will all fade away one day. In the end, what will you be left with?

Rather than putting our hope in all the things of the world, we should realize that all we have is through the cross of Jesus. Our story shouldn’t be one of boasting about our possessions or abilities. Instead, we should show others the difference the cross made. All of our hope and our future rests in the cross of Jesus. The cross of Jesus is all that we have.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
