The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness. — Proverbs 10:32
There are many times that I write about my son and things that happen in our lives with him. It was not so long ago, I could not help but laugh at an interaction between my wife and son. He was being a typical boy, playing around the house. It came time to eat, and he sat down, but he was certainly excited and still playful as he sat down.
Not long into the meal, my wife and I were talking. I remember she looked over at our son, and she said words that made me laugh. She said, “what is that coming out of your mouth?!” I couldn’t help but laugh as he had a noodle out of his mouth and wiggling down his chin. He didn’t realize he had it coming out of his mouth. He never felt it or saw it.
That is undoubtedly the way it is for Christians a lot of times. We often have things coming out of our mouths that we don’t pay attention to, don’t feel, and don’t see. I’m not talking about noodles, but the words that come from our mouths.
As Christians, we know what things we should or shouldn’t say. We know what sets and example to others and shares the love of God. But there are many times those around us probably ask, “what was that coming out of their mouth?!”
Do the words we say share Jesus Christ with others? Are we setting an example, following what we know is acceptable? One of the easiest ways we can lead others to Christ is through the example we set with our words. Today, take a few moments and ask yourself the question, what is coming out of your mouth?
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
