My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. — Proverbs 3:11-12

There is one thing that I absolutely hated when I was younger. That was when I was corrected by my parents. It happened a lot too! I was a typical boy, full of energy and pushing all the buttons that I could. There were many times my parents had to correct me, both at home and in public.

It was often embarrassing when they had to correct me in public. There were times people would see me get in trouble. I remember once I got in trouble in front of some people I went to school with. But I brought that correction on myself because of my actions and my refusal, in many cases, to do what they had asked me to do.

I did not always understand it when I was younger, but I certainly understand it now that I have my own son. It isn’t fun to have to correct a child. But it is necessary. It helps them learn what is right and wrong and the proper way to conduct themselves.

Just like there are times when a child must be corrected, there are times that we, as Christians, must be corrected by God. Maybe we are going down the wrong path or doing the wrong things. God sends correction to help us learn His way and to keep us on the right path.

While the correction of God may not be fun, it does prove one thing. It proves that God loves us. He loves us so much that He wants to protect us, care for us, and guide us in the right way. So the next time God sends some correction in your life, don’t get yourself down. Be thankful because it is proof that He loves you!

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
