There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? — John 6:9

Back when I was younger, I loved to play sports. I played basketball, baseball, and soccer. It wasn’t so bad when I was in elementary school, as I just had to sign up for the team, and I was able to play. As I got older, I had to try out for the team. I remember trying out for the soccer team. I did not know the first thing about playing soccer. There were players much more talented than I was.

Yet, after trying out for the team, I made it! It certainly was not because I was a skillful soccer player. I had a lot to learn about the game. The situation was that the coach saw something in me that I did not see. He saw potential.

There are times in life when we struggle when we start looking at things around us. Perhaps we think that we are not good enough, smart enough, or just simply not enough. We think there are so many more in this world who are better equipped or would end up being better overall. It’s almost like the question the disciples asked, “what are they among so many?”

When God looks at us, He sees the potential that we don’t. Sure, maybe it was just five loaves and two fish, but there was a great miracle that could be performed. He sees the other side and what can be if we simply trust Him.

I’m reminded of the story of Mordecai Ham. He was an evangelist in the early 1900s, but when God was calling Him to the ministry, he ran from God. He refused to submit to the call. But once he did, not only were thousands of people saved through his ministry, and one of those was Rev. Billy Graham, who also led thousands to God!

Do not ever feel like you are not enough for God. You are enough! God is looking for someone to have faith, trust Him, and be obedient. You don’t have to be special in the eyes of others, you are special to God! God sees your potential and can do great things through you.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
