But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews. — Nehemiah 4:1

There have been several times in my life when someone became upset with me. I’ll never forget one time in a previous job where someone I was working with became upset with me. I was doing my job and following the rules, but they were upset. They believed that I was doing something to hurt them and they became angry over it.

If you are honest, you have had times when someone was angry with you too. It could be that you were simply doing what you were supposed to do, but they became angry. Anger is an emotion that we have to deal with in life from time to time. But a lot of times, it evolves into more than just anger.

We see that here in Nehemiah 4. Sanballat didn’t just become angry, he took it to a new level. He mocked the work that was being done. He was making fun of them, questioning them, and even seeking to attack those who were building the walls. He even sought to get others on his side against those building the walls.

When you are doing what God wants you to do, there are people who will make you angry. They will become upset because they do not understand what you are doing. At times, they may form groups against you. They may want to try and attack or destroy you.

But don’t lose faith. Just like God was with Nehemiah and the Jews, He will be with you during those times. When you are dealing with someone who is angry with you, do exactly what they did. Pray about it! Even though you may face anger and wrath that appears insurmountable, remember who is on your side. If you are doing God’s will, He will take care of you!
