Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. — 2 Corinthians 3:17

There was a time a few years ago at work when I had several tasks that I was required to do every day. A few of them made sense, while a few of them were frustrating and seemed rather repetitive. I remember asking the leaders at the time why we were doing these tasks. The answer I got was rather disappointing.

We were doing these tasks in this specific manner because that’s how they were set up many years ago. Truthfully, we were going through the routine of the tasks, more than the task serving a purpose. It was a situation where we had done it this way for so long, everyone was afraid to change. That’s certainly how things go at times in life.

We have a habit of getting stuck in rituals and motions that may seemingly have no point. We also get stuck in the habits of sin as well. Once we have committed a sin, it can become easier to do it over and over again. Our human nature is one of habits.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. In this verse in 2 Corinthians, Paul writes and shares that liberty can be found in the Lord. This liberty, or freedom, that can be found sets us free from all the things that this world has that bind us. It’s freedom from sin and freedom from distractions. Freedom from superstitions, prejudices, and anything else that may stand in our way of serving God fully.

Today, are there habits, rituals, and motions that are standing in your way of serving God? Is there sin that has crept into your life that has become easier to commit over and over again? True liberty is available for all who seek it and it can only be found in God!
