Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. — Amos 8:11-12

There are times I have heard the saying, “desperate times call for desperate measures.” That’s certainly how I felt not so long ago. I had spent a long day working and did not take any time to eat. I was starving to say the least and becoming desperate.

That was until I drove in the area of a fast food restaurant. I know that the food at these types of places is not healthy, but that’s not the point. I was extremely hungry and they had food, that while not healthy, was extremely tasty. The point is, when you are hungry, you will essentially try to satisfy your hunger with anything you can find.

In Amos, the description is given of a time when people are living in a famine of God’s word. They want to hear from God, want to hear His words, but they seek it and cannot find it. The description is such that they have wondered coast to coast, in every direction, yet they could not find the words of God.

One could probably argue that we are living in a similar day today. People everywhere are on the search for something. They all have a void they are trying to fill and so many are filling it with anything they can find. They fill it with addiction, greed, anger, or may other things when the real solution is God!

In our world, it can be tough to hear God amid all the sin and wickedness. In your search, don’t settle and feed your desire for the things of God with the garbage of this world. The world has no solution for the desires of your heart. The real solution is God!
