For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. — Romans 8:18
A few months ago, I purchased a kit at a hardware store for my son. The kit allowed him to build his own race car and it contained all the pieces. He simply needed to put the pieces in the right place and hammer them together with the nails. To finish it off, he had to place the stickers on the side.
I remember as he started to put the kit together, he became frustrated. The pieces were not going together like he wanted them to. When he started trying to hit the nails, a couple of them he missed. A couple were not exactly straight. He was ready to quit because the difficulties. Yet, when he finished putting the car together, he was so excited. The end result was worth all the difficulties.
As we get older, our difficulties become much worse than simply trying to put together a toy kit. We have concerns over our families, our health, our safety, our finances, and so much more. At any moment, those concerns can become difficulties.
It would be so easy for us if we just quit. We could simply throw in the towel and say that we are done with the challenges and difficulties of this life. When the difficulties of life overwhelm us, we should think back to the words of Paul here. He says, “not worthy to be compared.” In other words, anything you are facing now is not even worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence with what lies ahead!
The challenges may be great and the difficulties may seem too much to overcome. But when all those things are put into comparison with what lies ahead in Heaven for the Christian, they are all insignificant. Don’t let the things of this life get you down. Yes, the things we deal with in this life may be challenging, but they don’t compare to what lies ahead. The end is worth all the difficulties.
