One thing that I have learned in my life is that there is something to be said for being prepared. I learned quickly in my professional career that you need to be prepared. At times, there are meetings or presentations that you need to attend or even lead. Sometimes it was being prepared for difficult conversations with an employee that was not doing what they should.
While it is always nice to be prepared for the things that you expect, I have also learned that you should prepare for the unexpected. In all aspects of life, there are a variety of things that can happen to disrupt your day, week, or even your life. It can be an unexpected job issue, health issue, loss of a loved one, trial, or so much more.
In Ephesians, Paul writes about the armor of God. He talks about the importance of being prepared, not just for the expected, but for the unexpected. Why? Because we are not battling things of this world, but what he referred to as principalities and powers. Things that we are unable to overcome if we are not properly prepared.
Paul outlined several key things for us to remember. He wrote about faith, righteousness, truth, and salvation. He spoke of those things in light of a soldier’s armor for defense. But most importantly, he wrote about the need for the word of God and prayer.
Even if things in your life are going as you hoped or expected, you should be prepared for the unexpected. The best way to prepare is to spend time in God’s word and spend time talking to God in prayer. God will help us as we face the unexpected, but we must do our part to be prepared.
