For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. — 2 Corinthians 5:1
There are many times that I have found myself away from home. For example, there are many times I found myself away from home for work. Perhaps, I would be away for several hours and I found relief when returning home after a long day.
Other times, I have found myself away from home for quite some time. Maybe it was a few days or even a couple of weeks. What I learned is that the longer I am away from home, the more relief I found when returning there.
Our homes are a place of comfort for us. It should be a place of relaxation and an escape from the problems of the world. We know who is there, and the things that are there, allowing us a sense of peace that can be challenging to find in this world. As comforting as home is here in this world, Christians have another home that we should be focused on as well.
In this verse, Paul writes that if our earthly house was dissolved, we still have an eternal home. It’s a house that’s made by God, not made with human hands. It’s a home where we can find comfort, relaxation, and an escape from the problems of this world.
So when you think about all the challenges and issues of life, perhaps you find yourself a little discouraged. Or maybe you are like me. As you think about the things of this life, you start thinking more about our heavenly home. I’m often reminded of the signs we often hang in our homes, home sweet home. One day, we will arrive at our eternal home and its truly home sweet home.
