In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. — John 14:2
A few times in my life I have gone through a home appraisal. We had an appraisal done on the first home that we ever bought. Each time we moved, it involved an appraisal of our home. Those appraisals would involve someone evaluating the size and features of the home to determine its worth.
At times those appraisals were great. They told the story that our homes were worth more than we anticipated. Sometimes we were disappointed. Perhaps the appraisal came back lower than we had hoped. Perhaps they found something wrong with the house or a previous appraisal. One thing I have learned is that appraisal is the opinion of the person examining it. One person may appraise the home differently than another. Have you ever thought about doing an appraisal of your eternal home?
We often talk about our heavenly home and have heard songs about mansions that await us. Jesus told us that in heaven there were many mansions. He shared that He was going to prepare a place for us where we could be in His presence forever. We could try to talk about the looks of the place He has prepared. Maybe some people are interested in the features of the home. In appraising homes here in this world, we talk about the neighborhood, the city, or the state where the home may be. The Bible certainly gives us a glimpse of the area around those mansions in Revelation.
Truthfully, if you think about that heavenly home, it is priceless. Though we don’t know all the details, we do know that it is the perfect place for those who love God. But we also know that there is an alternate destination for those who do not know God. It’s a vast difference from heaven.
Just like on earth, the eternal home appraisal is the decision of the person who is evaluating it. You have the choice. You can choose eternity in Heaven, or eternity in Hell. The choice is yours. If you were appraising your eternal home, which one do you choose? If you haven’t chosen Heaven, you can certainly make that decision today.
