And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. — Numbers 13:33
We can only imagine what was going through the minds of the people of that day. Spies were sent into Canaan to inspect the land that God had promised to the children of Israel. When the spies returned, many returned telling interesting stories. The land flowed with milk and honey. It was a beautiful place and had all the great things that God had promised.
There was just one problem, there were giants! These giants were so large that the spies said that they made them become like grasshoppers. Not only did they feel like grasshoppers, but they said they no doubt looked like grasshoppers to the giants that were in the land. While the reward was great, these spies said that the challenge to overcome was just too big.
There are many times in life that we find ourselves in a situation like this. We have a great opportunity that lies in front of us, but there are challenges that stand in our way. Even just the thoughts of Heaven for the child of God do not come without its own challenges in life. We must face the facts: there are giants among us!
No, I’m not talking about giants in the actual literal sense. There are giants that we all will face in our lives in a variety of ways. Maybe you will face a giant of work, education, family, or many other things. These giants can come in so many forms and varieties. Yet, on the other side of those giants is a wonderful reward. So what do we do?
We must be honest with ourselves and realize that giants are going to exist. To enjoy the reward, we must go through the giants that we will face. We must have faith that our God is bigger than any of our giants. Remember, God is with you. Don’t be afraid of the giants!
