The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. — Zephaniah 3:17

It was not too long ago that I was out to lunch and I saw a sign at a local restaurant advertising an event. Speed dating was coming to this restaurant, along with about 5 other events that were being advertised for those who were “seeking love.” The events were advertising for those who were college age, older adults, seniors, and more.

I certainly had no reason to attend these events, but from what the worker told me they were pretty popular events. Why? Because it is human nature to want to be loved. From birth, our nature is to want to be loved by our parents. We crave that love throughout our lives until we get older and then we start craving the love of others around us.

While our souls have a desire for love, many times the love that we find never satisfies. I read once that the soul continuously looks for love to fill it, but cannot find love to satisfy it. Why? Because the love of God alone is the only one that can make a soul content.

In this verse of Zephaniah, we see a God who loves us so much that it is indescribable. He says that God is with us, that God is mighty, God will save, and that God has rejoiced over us. Then he writes that God will rest in His love. The idea is that God has loved us so much, He can sit back, relax, and look at us knowing He loved us with all that God is.

That’s an astounding thought. Think of all the things that God has done, is doing, and no doubt will do. That same God gave ALL of His love to us. He held nothing back. We don’t have to spend all our time wandering around trying to find love, it is freely available through a God who gave us all of His love. Rest assured today that God loves you and is not holding back.
