He restoreth my soul – Psalm 23:3

If you are like me, there are times when life is just exhausting. We spend our lives running around everywhere it seems. Work can be so draining mentally and physically. Then you add family, friends, and other commitments, it can leave you exhausted.

I think we all understand what exhausted is, but then there are those times that your spirit is exhausted. It’s one thing to be physically tired, but to be spiritually tired is another. It is those times that it seems that Satan is doing anything in his power to get you. It seems like there is temptation after temptation, frustration after frustration, and there may seem to be no end in sight.

It seems that it is in those times that other things enter our lives that add to the stress. It could be sickness, it could be financial troubles or many other things. It is as if the things compact on top of each other and they leave us spiritually exhausted. That’s the point David is describing here in Psalm 23.

David had just finished describing how God had brought him into a place of peaceful waters and green pastures. It was a place of reflection, peace, and learning. Through God’s guidance and direction, David was led to a place where he could say “He restoreth my soul.” In other words, God brought him back from the point of spiritual exhaustion to a place of joy and excitement.

Things in life are going to bring us down. We live in a world of sin and trouble. We may face financial difficulty, sickness, temptation, and trials that may try to steal away our joy. But we have a God who is able to help us when we reach the point of spiritual exhaustion and bring us back to a place of joy once again. Don’t lose hope in the struggles of life. God can restore the joy of life once again.
