Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. — Romans 8:37

In society today, there are a lot of people who want to cast Christians aside. In the past few years, I recall hearing media personalities, celebrities, and political leaders all say that Christians should simply step out of society. They claim we should not share our opinion or be heard or considered in regards to anything in life.

As Paul wrote in the verse preceding this, to many we are like sheep. Our enemies have determined that we are not important and are deserving of being slaughtered. Paul was talking about all the things against us. All the things in life that seem to work against those who love God, but he ends with these words in verse 37.

He starts off with the word “Nay.” In other words, all the things that could ever come against us in life, all the people who would ever want to harm us or discard us in life, these can never have the upper hand in the end. They may win the battle now. They may cause us difficulty now, but they will not win.

Why? Because we are more than conquerors. It is not a simple triumph over a small challenge, it is the ultimate victory in what he is saying here. They cannot destroy our faith and they cannot end our hope. What we have through the one that loved us, Jesus Christ, is so much more than they can ever bring on us in this world.

But that’s the key. We have to realize that our ability to conquer all the things in life does not come from anything that we may do. Our ability to overcome comes from the one who loved us and lives within us! Don’t give up amid all the challenges and struggles of life. Use them to renew your faith in the one who will provides us victory in the end. It may not look like it now, but you are able to conquer the situations that you face through the Savior.
