But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. — Psalm 3:3
I will never forget playing the game hide and seek as a child. The object was to hide behind something so well that no one could find you. I was not always the best at the game, but it was fun to try and find something to hide behind.
I can recall many times in my life when I wish I had something to hide behind. The challenges and frustrations of life were looking for me. A difficult situation was taking place or perhaps a difficult conversation needed to take place. It sure would have been nice to go back into playing hide and seek once again from that problem or issue.
David writes in this Psalm that God is a shield. In those days, a shield was used to protect the vital organs in battle. It was worn as a means to protect a person from something that was certain to bring an end to the wearer’s life if they did not have a shield.
In those difficult things of life, it can certainly feel like the situations we face will bring us to an end. The sickness we may face may seem too challenging to overcome. The trials and tribulations of life may seem so overwhelming that we do not believe that we will ever make it through. It is in those times that we must rely on God, our shield, to protect us.
Don’t give up and don’t give in to whatever you may be facing today. God is in control and He is your mighty shield! The trials may be long and challenging, but He has not given up on you. Don’t give up on Him!
